Wes Miller
Managing Partner
Miller’s background includes an array of experience spanning 30 years in economic and community development in the areas of energy, the environment, agriculture, housing and industrial development. He served as director of the LEADS at Tougaloo College, a community based partner in the USDA StrikeForce Initiative. Earlier, he was chief operating officer for EGB Tech, a building prefabrication company which uses eco-friendly panelized materials. As director of NeighborWorks America’s, Rebuilding Communities Office for Mississippi and Alabama, Miller was responsible for developing strategic plans and providing technical assistance for fundraising, construction management, capacity building, economic development and green technology usage in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. Prior to joining NeighborWorks America, he acted as deputy director for Project Recovery, a mental health program dedicated to providing assistance in human development, property loss, and infrastructure development in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. As a marketing specialist with Alcorn State University he assisted small farmers in developing plans, packaging, branding, organization management structure for cooperative development and in locating new markets for products. During his 16 year tenure with the Mississippi Development Authority he acted as bureau manager for the Mississippi Energy Office developing nonprofits such as Energy Rated Homes of Mississippi and the Mississippi Biomass Council. He authored and coauthored studies on the feasibility of producing biodiesel and solar energy in Mississippi and provided the leadership for the development of hotels, grocery stores, power plants, housing and the transfer of sustainable technologies.
In 2011 Miller opened Broader Horizons Management Consulting to provide expertise in wealth creation to individuals and organizations throughout the southeast.
Shirley J. Miller
Partner
Shirley J. Miller earned a master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University and an undergraduate degree from Jackson State University in communications. Miller has over 29 years of public sector employment which includes, facility director for Mississippi Adolescent Center where she guided the facility through a rigorous certification process to become a licensed Medicaid provider. During Miller’s tenure in state government she established three employee incentive and recognition programs which continue to be operational today. As partner in Broader Horizons Management Consulting, Miller has provided consultation in special education services by facilitating parent focus group meetings, utilizing the information gathered at the meetings to provide recommendations to local school districts, the Mississippi Department of Education and parent advocacy organizations. Miller also provides compliance monitoring of special education programs and services for the Mississippi Department of Education.
Micah S. Miller
Data Coordinator
Micah Miller is a graduate of Hinds Community College receiving certifications in Meat Merchandising and Food Production and Management. For over a decade, Miller has been employed at Hudspeth Regional Center in the dietary department. Miller, named employee of the quarter in 2008, assists in the provision of meal services for over 200 clients and 300 staff. In his tenure at Broader Horizons Management Consulting, Miller’s work includes data coordination for food production cooperatives, and demographic research for grant research and contract implementation, in addition to presentations on disability awareness and sensitivity.
Aaron S. Miller
Community Counselor
Earning a Master’s of Science degree in Community Counseling in 2011, Aaron Miller has vast experience in working with youth and young adults in community settings. Miller’s employment includes Guided Steps Healthcare, the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, Region 8 Mental Health, Harbor House Chemical Dependency Services, and Mississippi Children’s Home Services. During his tenure at the above named agencies Miller worked to ensure coordinated treatment team planning which enhances the outcomes of the agency’s clientele as well as providing resource information and evaluations and assessments. Miller currently serves as a Health Science Specialist for the Department of Veteran Affairs. His work as a consultant with Broader Horizons Management Consulting includes organizational development on health and social issues, presentations on disability awareness and cultural sensitivity.
